Circumcision
There are compelling reasons why routine circumcision should not be done. Parents contemplating having this operation performed on their son are welcome to attend for a discussion so that they may be fully informed about what is involved. No charge is made for this service.

Obstetrics and Gynecology
Ante-natal examinations and shared ante-natal care with certain hospitals and specialists; information on choosing the place of birth; breast-feeding advice and support; assessment and treatment of common gynaecological disorders and infections; routine examinations and cervical (‘Pap’) smears; contraceptive advice including provision of oral contraceptives and post-coital contraception (‘morning after pill’).
Orthopedics and Rheumatology
Orthopedic medical problems, that is, disorders of the moving parts of the body (back, neck and shoulder pains; sciatica and disc problems; arthritis and ‘rheumatic’ complaints) and their treatment by non-surgical methods including manipulation and cortisone (steroid) injections, as appropriate; treatment of uncomplicated bone fractures, including application and removal of plaster casts.
Surgery
Minor surgical procedures such as suturing of wounds, drainage of abscesses and removal of certain skin tumours, can be undertaken at the Clinic.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (‘STDs’)
Consultations and advice in this area are, of course, totally confidential.
Testing is available for the full range of STDs for men and women, including:
• HIV infection - test results in 30 minutes
• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhoea
• Syphilis - test results in 30 minutes
• Hepatitis B and C
• Herpes
• Yeast (fungus) infections
Travel Medicine
Advice is tailored to the needs of the individual traveller, taking into account the planned itinerary and the person’s medical history.
Important considerations include the need for anti-malarial medicine, and immunisation against hepatitis A and typhoid fever. These and other vaccines for foreign travel are generally available at the Tokyo British Clinic as well as medicines for malaria prevention.

Counselling/Psychotherapy

General Check-ups/Physical Examinations
These examinations are available during normal clinic hours, and may be performed as personal or company examinations, as well as for insurance purposes and for schools and colleges in Japan and overseas.
For personal examinations, a full medical history is taken and a thorough physical examination carried out; tests are tailored according to the age, gender, and medical circumstances of the individual, so that relevant tests are done and the results interpreted to provide the maximum useful information and advice to the person concerned. Full written reports are provided within a few days of the examination.

If required, in case of complicated or serious illness, referrals are made by personal introduction to good English speaking specialists, and assistance given in arranging hospital admission.
